I am back from the Bullmastiff National and my hunting trip. By the time I email this out, I will have posted pictures of our last playday on The Bullmastiffs of Northern California website http://www.bullmastiffsofnorcal.com/ and my facebook page.

The BONC fall playday was awesome!!!! Another great turnout of wonderful people and incredible dogs. We had a great mix of familiar and new faces. BONC is looking forward to planning another playday this spring. I hope we will continue to have your support. Your attendance at these events is what makes them possible.

The Bullmastiffs of Northern California Club was well represented at the American Bullmastiff Association National held in October in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As a club, we hosted the hospitality suite Thursday and Friday nights providing excellent food and tasty snacks for all to enjoy. We also put together a basket for the basket raffle and donated a large elk antler to the silent auction. Our “Taste of California” basket was a big hit; it’s jar was stuffed full of tickets! The antler the club donated to the silent auction brought in over one hundred dollars. We had several members (Charles and Olga) that did an outstanding job showing dogs in the top 25 event as well as club member Ronie Whittall taking home the top Junior handler award!

There is a dog show coming up at the end of January that is one I think all of you will be interested in. The Golden Gate Kennel Club Show will be held at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, on Saturday, January 28th and Sunday, January 29th. It is one of only a few benched dog shows still held in the United States. A benched dog show is defined as follows:

An all-breed show specifically designed for public education and enjoyment, wherein all dogs are required to stay in an assigned “benching area” for the duration of the show, (except when being exercised, groomed, or exhibited) in order that the public may easily view the exhibits up close and talk to the breeders, owners, and handlers. There are very few benched shows left in the USA – the ones that readily come to mind are Westminster Kennel Club in New York City, International Kennel Club in Chicago, and Golden Gate in San Francisco. These are very large, heavily attended shows by the public. Excellent for the public to learn about all breeds of dogs.

There will be a number of BONC members there showing dogs. Be sure to come by our benched area to say hi.

Just a quick word about some other upcoming events that BONC will be a part of. This June will be the Woofstock show in Vallejo, and BONC will be supporting entries all four days. Woofstock is done in a sixties theme with handlers and some judges dressing the part. It is a lot of fun and has become one of the most popular dog shows in the United States. 2017 is BONC’S year to host the Bullmastiff Far West Specialty. There will be a sit down dinner, live auction, and raffle. As Bullmastiff enthusiasts, we welcome all donations for the auction and raffle as well as your attendance at the show and dinner. It will be held at the Mensona dog show in Santa Rosa toward the end of August. I will provide more information about these events via emails and the BONC website as they draw closer.

Again, thank you for your support,
